Before I became involved in politics I was a librarian, teacher, small business owner, and farmer. My interest in supporting the Canby library drew me into the political arena. I was on the County Commission from 2003-2009, helping the county with infrastructure, workforce development, business retention and expansion, and many other projects. Then, I became a State Senator where I chaired the Veterans' and Military Affairs Committee and the Transparency Committee.

"Schrader has been consistently bipartisan and effective at the county and in the Senate, focusing on economic development, veterans affairs, agriculture and education."

The Oregonian 9/21/10

"She [Martha] works well with people and championed several initiatives, among them expanded veterans' services. But in her time on the commission Schrader was no stranger to local businesses, promoting their causes and offering help...Schrader's greatest strength may be in her trademark energy -- always high, rooted in optimism, keyed to what voters worry about most."

-The Oregonian 4/26/12

It is essential the commission is listening to the needs of the people and businesses in the area and then responding with action. As part of my campaign for county commissioner, I've gone to visit several businesses in the area. I'm ready to get back on the commission to use what I have learned to help local businesses expand to create jobs for the residents of Clackamas County.

It's an honor to have received so much support for my campaign. I've been endorsed by individuals in every corner of the county. All the local business and labor organizations support me because they know I am the candidate in the race capable of helping the county work together to create living wage jobs. See the full list of my supporters here.

If elected, I will:

Prioritize job creation and jump-starting out local economy
Advocate for maintenance and smart infrastructure planning
Promote openness and accountability
Provide critical services for our military families
Protect our vulnerable populations - our children, our elderly, and our homeless

The ballots are out, and I need your vote to get back in the saddle on the commission. I will win on May 15th if I can get over 50% of the vote.

Please mail in or drop off your ballot. Share this email to spread the word about my record and priorities moving forward. Your support is invaluable. Thank you for your friendship and your vote.

Sincerely,

Martha
Martha Schrader for Clackamas County CommissionWed, 09 May 2012 15:35:14 -0700http://www.marthaschrader.com/2012/05/09/my-record-and-priorities-share-your-friends/Ballots are Out, Martha is up on TV! http://www.marthaschrader.com/2012/04/29/ballots-are-out-martha-tv/
New Ad on TV!

Martha is on TV. She went out to their facility in Wilsonville to meet with Todd Miller, Retail Sales Director, and Robert Crosby, the Vice President of Sales. Trellis Earth Products, Inc. develop, market and sell bioplastic-based products used primarily in the food service industry, including disposable deli-ware, cutlery, shopping bags and trash bags. On February 14th, Trellis Earth released big news that in 2012 they will be working to open two manufacturing plants in the United States. One plant is planned to open in Lake Oswego, meaning more jobs for our county!

Sunnyside United Neighbors

Martha visited the Sunnyside United Neighbors CPO last Tuesday. They were discussing several new and exciting developments going on locally. First, Pastor Ray Cotton from New Hope Community Church spoke about the Eagle Landing re-development planned for Happy Valley and unincorporated Clackamas County. They are planning a huge remodel of the neighborhood. The plan includes a new chapel, four star hotel, shopping district, outdoor amphitheater and mini golf. They have top architects working on the project including one of the lead architects from the Downtown Disney design. Find out more about the Eagle Landing project here.

Clackamas County Library Director, Doris Grolbert was at the meeting to discuss the Clackamas Corner-Oak Lodge library's new location. A few years back, the library purchased an old building to renovate into a brand new library location in Happy Valley. Ever since, they have faced one development setback after another. After a long struggle, they are moving into the still unfinished property in March. The good news is after all the setbacks and added costs the library will still end up within their budget thanks to thoughtful spending and an excellent saving system they implemented from the beginning.

Lawn Sign Time!

Do you have a location in your yard where a lawn sign would be highly visible to heavy traffic? If yes, we want to put up a Martha Schrader Lawn Sign in your yard. Please sign up for a lawn sign here. We have a limited amount of yard signs, so we are looking to place the signs only in prime locations. If you can help put up lawn signs, please email campaign@marthaschrader.com, we need your help! Thank you for signing up!

Save the Date - Reception March 20th!

The Home Builders Association of the Metro Portland, the North Clackamas Chamber of Commerce, and the Wilsonville Area Chamber of Commerce are hosting an event in support of Martha's campaign. I hope that this Valentine's Day you are spending the day with the ones you love. I know I am. I feel so lucky to be here every day in the county I love. Clackamas County is an extraordinary collective of urban and rural, cities and unincorporated land and all the communities with differing views for the future. Even with all of our differences, we can come together over our true needs.

We need a thriving economy. We need jobs. We need to get Clackamas working again. I am here asking for your support, so I can help do just that. I have a proven record of helping businesses get the support they need from county government, to expand and create living wage jobs. I believe I can help bring growth to the county again.

With that focus, this Valentine's Day I am buying my chocolate from a local chocolatier, I'm purchasing my flowers from nearby farms, I'm spending my money at businesses owned locally, so that I can help my friends in Clackamas County. I hope that you will join me in shopping in the county, so that we can keep our dollars working for us and the local businesses that need our support.

Thank you to everyone who lives, works, and plays in Clackamas County. Happy Valentine's Day to you and yours!

Warm Regards,

Martha

Building Business

Recently, Martha had the opportunity to visit JVNW, Inc., a local business located right in Martha's hometown of Canby. President David Jones, pictured left, gave Martha the tour of their engineering and manufacturing facility. They design and build unique vessels to fit the needs of their clients. JVNW makes stainless steel tanks, mixers and systems used in several industries, including food, beer, wine, juice, cosmetics, alternative energy and more. Martha was extremely impressed by their facility and innovative methods.

Like many local businesses, JVNW has a need for skilled, trained workers. Martha understands the need to expand technical and vocational programs in our region to ensure people get jobs and businesses have the workforce they need to succeed.

Be Martha's Valentine?

Like her on Facebook!

Show your fondness of Martha by liking her on Facebook. She enjoyed an informative, social brunch with the seniors living in the community home.
Many of the residents shared stories that described their daily activities, frequent celebrations, and personal histories. After coffee, Martha received a tour of the facility from Director Nicki Harold and Owner Michael DeShane.

One couple, who will soon be celebrating their 68th wedding anniversary, invited her into their room to show Martha its comfortable arrangement. The husband had helped to found Clackamas Community College and then later worked at the college. Martha and Mary

This was not Martha's first visit to Rackleff Place. In fact, she even has a friend who lives on the premises. Marilyn Landeen (pictured right) used to live on Three Rivers Farm where Martha currently resides. Marilyn shared some great stories, including the fact that when she lived at Three Rivers she had a pet crow that lived in the basement and would spend many days perched on her shoulder! Overall, Rackleff Place is an impressive assisted living community, and according to the residents, it's a great place to live.

Canby High School Applied Technology Department

In 2000, the City of Canby passed a bond to bring vocational and technical training programs to the high school. Now, the Applied Technology Center, which is located on the campus, is up and running. This relatively new center offers a variety of project-based curricula that are aligned with standards and proficiencies as defined by business and industry. Martha and Principal Pat Johnson

Principal Pat Johnson led Martha on a tour of the on campus center. The program and center will offer exciting possibilities for students who are interested in vocational and technical training opportunities. This new facility with its exciting curricula will no doubt serve as an example for other school districts that are considering adopting more vocational and technical curricula for their own students.

Help Martha by talking about her campaign and sharing this email with your friends! Everyone in the county should know Martha is the best candidate for Clackamas County Commissioner, Position #3. After interviewing both Martha and her opponent, the Oregon Home Builders Association decided to endorse Martha for Position #3 on the Clackamas County Commission and gave her a generous contribution to help her win in May.

The Oregon War Veterans Association just contacted Martha to let her know that they were supporting her race as a long-time veteran's advocate. “The Oregon War Veterans Association endorses Martha Schrader for Clackamas County Commissioner because she has proven herself sensitive and effective as a veteran advocate, especially while serving as the Oregon State Senate’s Chair of Veteran Affairs. Martha’s perspective is unusual among many legislators, because she sees veteran issues for what they are and deals with them, rather than using veterans and their issues to promote some other political agenda.

Martha is authentic and sincere. Martha understands veteran and military family issues and will do whatever she can to help our causes. She has proven herself beyond reproach, and should be considered the front running candidate in the race.

The OWVA encourages all veteran voters to consider Martha Schrader as the best qualified and most sincere advocate of veteran issues in the race for Clackamas Community Commissioner.” -Greg Warnock, Oregon War Veterans Association

Martha is honored to be endorsed by these organizations and appreciates their support as she continues to work hard to return to her old seat on the commission.
Martha Schrader for Clackamas County CommissionWed, 04 Jan 2012 14:04:26 -0700http://www.marthaschrader.com/2012/01/04/owva-and-hba-endorsements/Phil Fogg of Marquis Companies Hosts Fundraiser for Martha http://www.marthaschrader.com/2011/12/02/phil-fogg-marquis-companies-hosts-fundraiser-marth/
You are invited to a reception to support Martha Schrader's campaign to once again serve on the Clackamas County Commission. Two weeks ago, Martha Co-chaired a conference for the national organization Military Children’s Education Center (MCEC). MCEC’s mission is to ensure quality educational opportunities for all military-connected children affected by mobility, a sick or injured parent, cycles of deployment, family separation, trauma or loss, and develop resilience skills during good times. She has also been active with the National Guard’s Yellow Ribbon Re-Integration Team and served on the Governors Task Force for Re-integration. Julie Parish chaired the event with the help of a steering committee active in supporting military children. Conference speakers included Mrs. Patty Shinseki, Wife of General Shinseki of Department of Veterans Affairs; Dr. Mary Keller, Executive Director of MCEC; and Oregon Attorney General John Kroger. The conference brought together leaders from all sectors of the community including, business, education, healthcare, faith-based and service providers, as well as, service clubs and organizations. Participants traveled from across the State of Oregon to attend, including active duty service members, educators, military parents, and others concerned about the educational needs of military children.

Highlights of the conference included special workshops with over 20 topics such as healthcare, forming partnerships, and using technology to connect schools to the communities. Each workshop developed a state action plan to identify community capabilities, synchronize resources, and plan home-front responses to support military children during time of uncertainty due to deployment, transitions and other challenges.

Mrs. Shinseki spoke about supporting the military child and stressed that MCEC had made extraordinary strides in addressing the needs of military children. She said MCEC’s programs are grounded in research and provide parents, communities, educational facilities, and parents, the tools they need to mitigate risks and amplify positive responses to a challenging military family environment. Attorney General John Kroger spoke about being a Marine Veteran and how the state needs to be aware of the issues that are facing the Oregon National Guardsman and the Reserve Components.

The first phase of the MCEC conference was the dinner on October 26th, followed a full of planning and training on the 27th. MCEC guests in attendance during the event included Governor John Kitzhaber with First Lady Cylvia Hayes, Senator Brian Boquist, Representatives Dave Hunt, Kevin Cameron, and Matt Wingard, Portland Commissioner Diane Mckeel, Clackamas County Commissioners Jim Bernard and Jamie Damon. Representatives from Oregon’s Federal Delegation, Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian’s office and Senator Suzanne Bonamici’s office also attended.
Martha Schrader for Clackamas County CommissionMon, 31 Oct 2011 15:58:58 -0700http://www.marthaschrader.com/2011/10/31/martha-co-chairs-mcec-conference/
